Defining the position of laminate printings on the basis of the grain

During the production of laminate floors the panels are cut to their final square or slat shapes from pre-coated base panels.
Up until now it was quite usual to place an orientation line on each base panel, record its position with a camera and use it for positioning the saw. This method is a proven method but does not overcome one major problem in the production of panels:
The different geometric expansions of the foils.
Modern proportional saws are capable of adjusting the width of the cut individually to allow a geometric cut of the panels on an as-needed basis. However, until now there was no sensor technology to detect the shrinking or expansion of the foils on the panels.
Thanks to many years of experience in correlating camera images, Opsis GmbH has created the first kind of positioning system based on camera technology. After several years of proven success at one of our customers in Canada, the next generation system was launched in 2006.
